91, of Needham, formerly of Newton Highlands and Meredith, NH, died December 10, 2016. Beloved husband of 60 years of the late Irene Frances (O’Keefe) Melville. Cherished father of Daniel F., MD, and his wife Sandra of Milton, Arthur G. of Wakefield, Elizabeth M. Klements of Milton, Thomas R. and his wife Lisa of Medfield, Christine M. Harvey and her husband Christopher of Needham, and Irene M. Francesconi and her husband Mark of Needham. Brother of Thomas R. of San Quintin, Baja California, Mexico, David J. of Bedford, and the late Arthur G., Eleanor Moss Kilbourn, and Mary V. Murphy. Beloved son of the late Arthur G. and Isabelle (Long) Melville. Grandfather of William P. and Arthur G. Melville IV of Milton, Michael S. Melville of Waltham, Margaret T. Melville of Lynn, William F. Klements and his wife Katherine of Plainville, Marita B. Klements of Nashua, NH, David J. Klements and his wife, Whitney B. Nielsen of Waltham, Thomas B. Klements of Milton, Shannon M. and Caroline R. Melville of Medfield, James M. Harvey of Los Angeles, CA, Edward C. Harvey of Cambridge, and Grace E., Rebecca E., and Daniel M. Francesconi of Needham. Great-grandfather of Noah,
Jude, Luke, and Mary Klements of Plainville. Bill is also survived by many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Born in Boston, he was a graduate of Mission High School, Class of 1943 and Boston College, Class of 1948. Bill spent 37 years as an executive with New England Telephone Company, now known as Verizon. Deeply involved in a wide array of charitable and community efforts, Bill was the former President of the Greater Boston Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the former President of the Thomas Sherwin Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Bill was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish, Newton Center, and St Charles Parish, Meredith, NH. In his retirement, Bill enjoyed teaching in the Institute for Learning in Retirement at his beloved Boston College. His greatest loves were his wife and family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the general scholarship fund at Boston College, Office of University Advancement, 140 Commonwealth Ave., Chestnut Hill, MA 02464, or to Sacred Heart Parish, 1321 Center St., Newton Center, MA 02459.
