Tessie (Katis) Mitropoulos passed away on December 31, 2022 at her home after a long courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Beloved wife of the late Charles Mitropoulos. Born in Potamia, Greece, she was the loving daughter of Nicholas and Demetra (Hasoulas). In 1951, at the age of 20, she left her family and emigrated to Lowell, MA for a better life. She began working as a stitcher in one of the Lowell factories. In 1953, Tessie married Charlie. They lived in Cambridge until 1957 when they moved to Arlington to raise their family,
Tessie, being an avid member of the Arlington Community, served on the Bishop School PTA and was a Greek interpreter for the Arlington Public Schools. She was a very active parishioner at the St. Athanasius Greek Orthodox Church in Arlington. She was President and member of St. Barbara's Philoptochos Society and was always willing to chair the Greek Cuisine at the annual bazaar. Tessie was also a St. Athanansius Parish Council member, 25th Anniversary Committee, Metropolis of Boston Philoptochos member, Metropolis of Boston Laity Award Recipient (1988), and Hellenic Nursing Home Board Member and volunteer.
Family was of the utmost importance in Tessie's life. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends and her door was alway open.
Throughout the years, Tessie could always depend on the love and help of her two sister-in-laws, Vicky Katis and Venetia Mitropoulos. As Tessie's illness progressed, and more assistance was needed, she and the family was lucky to have found two devoted and loving caretakers, Beverly and Kertania. Their dedication and support was greatly appreciated by all who loved Tessie. The family would also like to thank Beth Israel Lahey Hospice for their support.
Tessie was the loving mother of Nick Mitropoulos and his wife Marie (DelVecchio) and Peggy all of Arlington. She was also the cherished grandmother (YiaYia) of Danielle (Mitropoulos) Blume and her husband Mick, and Shelley (Mitropoulos) Aiello and her husband Alex. Tessie had two adoring great granddaughters, Teagan Aiello and Charlotte Blume.
Tessie was the loving sister of Harry Katis and the late Evangelos, Eftichia, George, Panagioti, and Athanasia. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit in the St. Athanasius Greek Orthodox Church on Wednesday January 4th from 10:00am to 11:00am. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
