Hagar, Phillip Harold Sr., age 69 of Ashburnham formerly of Arlington. Passed away at his home on Saturday September 17th after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's. He was surrounded by his family and slipped away in a peaceful, loved filled room. Beloved father of John and his wife Marcie, Martha and her spouse Blair Kennedy and Phillip Jr. and his wife Emma. Brother of Dorothy Sullivan and her husband Charles, John and his wife Rita and step brother of Sharon. He also leaves behind his seven grandchildren; Tyler, Makayla, Brett, Caden, Marcus, Cole and Marcella. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John Andrew and Marie Martha (Comeau) and Stepfather Gill Ghelen and his sister Barbara.

Phillip was born and raised in Arlington, MA where he was a history teacher for over 30 years. He enjoyed summer vacations in Round Bay, NS spending time with family and friends and his beloved animals. He was a former president of Arlington Historical Society, member of United Methodist Church and multiple land conservation communities. His generosity was obvious to all those that knew and loved him. "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."

Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral service on Tuesday at 10 am in Calvary United Methodist Church, 300 Mass. Ave., Arlington. Burial to follow in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
