Nan Sen Lui (Tseng) of Burlington, MA passed away on July 7, 2023 at the age of 85. Born in 1938, she is the beloved wife of Yau Lui, loving mother to Delphine Lui and her husband Brenden Maher, and cherished grandmother of Joline and Aria. She is survived by her sister Chien Sen and brother Cheo Sen whom she cared deeply for, numerous nieces and nephews, and many old friends.

Nan was a bright and inquisitive person all of her life, with a reputation of having an analytical mind. She was born in Hunan Province, China, to Cheng Tseng, a general under Chiang Kai-Shek and FoNan Wang, his devoted wife. She remembered years of moving from province to province during her young life, and having near death experiences. The family emigrated to Taiwan in 1949 after the fall of the GuoMingDang, when she was 11 years old. She has fond memories of growing up in Taiwan, after a tough transition. She attended National Taiwan University School of Agricultural Chemistry for college, and emigrated to the United States in 1960 to attend Vanderbilt University for graduate school. She earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1964, becoming the first woman to earn her Ph.D. in biochemistry in Vanderbilt University. She overcame language barriers and minority status to begin her career as senior scientist in Lamont Laboratories of Columbia University, followed by building a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry, ultimately finishing her career as Director of Medical Device Surveillance in Pfizer, retiring to a comfortable life of leisure and travel. She adored plants and flowers, gardening and nature, birds especially hummingbirds, cats.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit in the DeVito Funeral Home at 1145 Mass Ave., ARLINGTON on Saturday, July 15th from 9:30am-11:30am. Interment to follow at Westview Cemetery in Lexington.
