In Our Care

Knight, Meredith L., of Arlington on October 31st, 2021, just a few days short of turning 66, Meredith Knight née Leach, passed away. Meredith was born in Natick, Mass. to Anthony Leach and Nancy Middleton on November 4, 1955. Meredith lost her mother at a very young age, but adored her stepmother Helen until she, too, passed away in 2015.

After Meredith graduated from Wayland High School she attended Maryville College in Knoxville, Tenn. She married Lamar Knight, with whom she operated a bookstore in Knoxville. When her marriage ended in divorce she returned to Massachusetts where she made many dear friends that would be with her for the rest of her life.
Meredith had several careers, everything from working at the Food Coop in Central Square to being a concierge at commercial and residential buildings. Her favorite occupation was also her last, cat sitting. She loved all animals, but cats gave her especially great joy.
Meredith was blessed with wide circles of friends and relatives. She was very active as a Quaker with the Friends Meeting at Cambridge and sang and volunteered with the Mystic Chorale. Meredith was an avid listener in the Greater Boston live roots music scene, and a friend to hundreds of musicians and fellow listeners there. For a while she even kept many of her fellow music lovers up to date with her weekly newsletter "Meredith's Music Update". She would make sure that those who dropped in for the music at Sally O'Brien's, Plough and Stars, Toad, and other venues as strangers would be greeted as friends on their next visit.

Meredith had suffered for many years with metastatic thyroid cancer. She bore it courageously and with fortitude. She received excellent care from the medical teams at Mt. Auburn and Massachusetts General Hospitals, and truly cherished everyone on these teams.

A gathering and prayer service will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021, from 1 - 3 pm at the DeVito Funeral Home, 1145 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, Mass 02476, 781-643-3610 followed by a reception a short walk away at the Sons of Italy, 19 Prentiss Rd, Arlington, MA 02476 (781) 643-4255 from 3 – 6 pm.
