Margaret E. Downie ( Robinson ) at age 97 of Arlington, MA went home to the Lord on May 12, 2012. She was the wife of the late James C. Downie, who passed away February 19, 1985. They were married on July 15, 1939 and moved to Arlington in 1941. Margaret was the daughter of late Charles and Elizabeth A. (Young) Robinson who emigrated from Ireland in 1912. She was born July 14, 1914 in South Boston, MA and graduated from Dorchester High School in 1932.
She leaves her children; Margaret Davis and husband David of Bradenton,FL, Douglas Downie and wife Jacqueline of Arlington, Nancy Pacunas and husband Alban of Belchertown,MA and Linda McGurl and husband Thomas of Putnam, CT. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her dear friends. . Predeceased by her siblings, Charles and John Robinson and Ruth Smith.
Upon raising her children Margaret was employed at Jordan March Co. and later for several years at Harvard Co-op, where she retired from in 1979. She loved to crochet and knit, and made many beautiful items, as well as enjoying the piano. She was a faithful believer in the Lord and a lifelong member of The Mount Auburn Gospel Hall in Watertown,MA .
Services will be held on Wednesday May 16 at the Saville Chapel of DeVito Funeral Home 1145 Mass. Ave., Arlington commenincing with visitation at 10 a.m. and a Funeral Home Service at 11 a.m. . Please omit flowers.
