Lucia A Cummings (Bonardi), 95 of Arlington, MA passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 5, 2017. Lucia was born on February 5, 1922 to Edward and Pierina Bonardi of Somerville, MA. She attended Arlington High School, where she met her future husband Russell J. Cummings. They both contributed to the war effort before beginning a 54 year marriage.
After raising three children she continued to serve her country through her work at Immigration and The US Postal Service. Lucia became one of the first Federal Women’s Program Coordinators under the EEOC, where she was a pioneer of equal employment rights for women.
As part of a large and close knit Italian family, she remained in the Boston area throughout her life. Most recently she lived at Brightview Assisted Living in Arlington, where she delighted in serenading her fellow residents and playing poker every afternoon with her best buddies.
Lucia was preceded in death by her husband Russell J. Cummings, and her son Russell J. Cummings, Jr. of Key West, Fl.
She is survived by her daughter Heather Aveson, and the lights of her life granddaughters Dr. Victoria Aveson of NYC, NY and Olivia Aveson of Astoria, New York, her son Edward J. Cummings, and daughter in law, Rebecca Cummings of Oakland, Arkansas.
Lucia had an infinite ability to find the positive in any situation and friendship with all she met. Everyone who knew her will miss her effervescent personality and indomitable spirit.
