Roberts, Lester K. died peacefully at the age of 82 on May 13, 2017 surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren after a long battle with lung cancer. Lester had a lot of different roles in his life. He was a sailor in the Navy as a young man, was married to the love of his life Judith M. Roberts for 60 years who pre deceased him this past November. Also, predeceased by his parents Lester and Lillian Roberts, and grandson John T. Roberts. He was a cosmetologist and salon owner in the Danvers, Middleton areas until the mid-70's until his interests took him to the Salem jail where he started as a deputy sheriff and was with the Essex county sheriff’s department for 34 years and retired as a Captain of the Lawrence Farm correctional facility. Also part of the TLT construction crew for many years. He was a hardworking man for his family. a quiet man, an observer. He loved to read mystery novels, play cards, and was the world’s BIGGEST PATRIOTS FAN! But most importantly; a husband, father of seven children Kenneth L. Roberts of Alton Bay NH, Scott Roberts & his wife Annmarie of Salem, Lisa Roberts of Wakefield MA, Kathy Cormier & her husband Michael of Wakefield MA, Brian Roberts and his wife Brenda from Sandown NH, Cynthia Roberts & her husband Richard of Amesbury MA, and Paul Roberts and his wife Dawn from Kingston NH. Also survived by 24 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Known by all as Gumpy. His granddaughter Nicole took amazing care of him at the end of his journey. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Wednesday 4 to 8pm in The DeVito Funeral Home 1145 Mass Avenue ARLINGTON and to a Funeral Service Thursday at 12:30pm in The First Baptist Church Lowell Street, Wakefield.
