Loving father of Tiffany Manning Gauvin and her husband Timothy of Waltham, MA and Darah Manning Van Buskirk and her husband Walter of Wakefield, MA. Devoted grandfather "Babu" of Walter, Timothy and Lyra. Beloved son of the late Sophie (Rafferty) and Walter Manning and step-son of Anthony Swirka of Lynn, MA. Devoted and loving son-in-law of the late Virginia and Joseph Cuggino of Belmont, MA. Brother of Thomas Swirka of Nahant, MA, Michael Swirka of Colorado, and of the late Robert Swirka of Boston, MA and Judith Watson of Lynn, MA. A proud Army veteran. In the Army, John discovered his love of mathematics and engineering. As a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology and Northeastern University, John went on to enjoy a lengthy and fulfilling career as a petrochemical designer. John’s love of engineering permeated all aspects of his life, always curious and analytical, looking for an efficient and interesting solution to any of life’s problems, including how to best design intricate wooden train tracks and massive magna-tile towers with his beloved grandchildren. To John, his greatest accomplishment was the family and life he built with his beloved wife of 55 years, Janet. Always present, always loving, always selfless.
