Joan M. (Masterson) Scalese passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and loved ones, on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. Beloved wife of James F. Scalese. Loving mother of Gail Scalese of Belmont and her partner George Roop of Waltham, Stephen Scalese and his wife Rovena of West Boylston, and the late Jamie Scalese of Swampscott. Adoring grandmother of Kendall Higgins, Aaron and Christina Scalese. Loving sister of Kathleen Anno of Lynnfield, the late Ruth Kane of Saugus, the late Nancy DiGiovanni of Melrose, her husband Bob, and the late Doris Dewey of Malden. Born and raised in Melrose and Charlestown, Joan settled in Belmont where she raised her family and lived for over 40 years. Joan was passionate about education and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Boston State College in 1977. She then went on to a 35 year career in Administration at McLean Hospital in Belmont. Joan was known for her quick wit and love of dancing - she brought great energy and fun wherever she went. She will be sorely missed. Funeral from the DeVito Funeral Home 761 Mt. Auburn St., WATERTOWN on Tuesday at 9 am followed by her funeral mass at 10 am in Sacred Heart Church. Burial to follow in Highland Meadow Cemetery, Belmont. Relatives and friends are invited to visit in the funeral home on Monday from 4-7 pm.
