Jean A. (Wefer) Scheppman of Wayland, formerly of Yarmouthport, died on September 9, 2013 at Traditions of Wayland.
Born in Easton, PA, on September 4, 1923, she was the daughter of the Reverend William F. Wefer and Marion (Seip) Wefer. She was raised in Dayton, NJ, Jackson Heights, NY, and Ardmore, PA, where she attended Haverford High School. A graduate of Macalester College, in St. Paul, MN, she received her degree in Sociology. She was employed at American Airlines before her marriage.
Mr. and Mrs. Scheppman raised their family in Natick and later Wellesley, MA where they lived for 47 years. Mrs. Scheppman was a Girl Scout leader at Hunnewell School, a friendly visitor at MCI, and a long-time volunteer at the Newton Wellesley Hospital coffee shop. A communicant at the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, she was an active member and on the board of the Women's Association. In 2004 the Scheppmans retired to Yarmouthport, MA. Mrs. Scheppman enjoyed tennis in her youth, was an avid reader, and loved to travel. Every summer was spent with family at a cabin in the Adirondack Mountains in New York state.
Predeceased by her husband, John C. Scheppman, she is survived by two daughters, Winifred J. Doyle and her husband Daniel of Waltham, Patricia A. Scheppman and her husband David Hudson of Ghent, NY; a brother-in-law Robert D. Scheppman and his wife, Barbara K. Scheppman of Newtown Square, PA: four grandchildren, Jason Doyle, Andrew Doyle, Nicholas Hudson and Laura Hudson and her husband Matthew Arthur; three nieces and a nephew.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, 207 Washington Street, Wellesley, MA and burial will be private at the Easton Cemetery in Easton, PA.
