In Our Care
DiVito, James A., of Waltham, formerly of Watertown and East Cambridge, passed away on May 23, 2023, at the age of 92. The son of Anna (Vincent) and Domenic DeVito, he was born on March 22, 1931 and grew up in East Cambridge.
Incredibly bright and inquisitive, Jim graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin School in the spring of 1947. He continued his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers. Entering the Army in September of 1952, Jim served two years in the Corps, attached to the Airforce at various locations in the Canadian province of Newfoundland. After leaving the Army in 1954, Jim joined New England Power Service Co. (NEPSCO) while also continuing his education at Northeastern University, where he earned his MBA in 1961. He worked at NEPSCO for more than 40 years, retiring in 1993 as a Principal Engineer.
Jim married his beloved wife, Marion (Lepore) DiVito, on December 27, 1952, and they spent 70 happy years together. He was a loving and devoted father to seven children: Dominic DiVito and his wife Mary of Arlington; James DiVito and his wife Karen of Dennis; Ann DiVito of Waltham; Maria Williams of East Cambridge; Candida DiVito of Waltham; and the late Anthony DiVito and Rose Achorn. Loving brother of the late Clare Weber of East Cambridge. Jim was a loving grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Throughout his life, Jim was happiest spending time with his family and friends, especially at holiday gatherings and family celebrations. He and Marion loved to travel, visiting Italy many times along with other European countries. They also vacationed annually in Stowe, Vermont to enjoy the beautiful fall foliage. Jim was kind, good natured and humble. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
