McCarthy, Elizabeth J. (Doherty) of Lexington, MA passed away on August 4, 2018 after a brief stay at Bay Path Nursing Home in Duxbury. She was the eldest of seven, born in Charlestown, MA to Phillip and Frances (Nagle) Doherty. She was approaching her 98th birthday and was revered as the Matriarch of the Doherty Clan. She was deeply loved by her family, friends and so many who had the pleasure to have known her sincere care and kindness. "Bette" was married to Joseph S. McCarthy for 62 years before his death in 2009. Elizabeth devoted her life to her family and was the beloved mother to the late Brian McCarthy. She is survived by her sons, Reverend Joseph McCarthy of St. Thecla Parish in Pembroke, Deacon Kevin McCarthy and his wife Eileen Kirk of Springfield, and her daughter Maureen McCarthy-Darling and her husband Gordon Darling of Yarmouth, Maine. She was the much-loved grandmother of five grandchildren, Cailin, Bailey and Aidan Darling and Brian and Michael McCarthy, as well as a cherished Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear sister Carol Granfield of Stoneham. Elizabeth was also predeceased by her brothers Phillip and Fred and her sisters, Virginia, Louise and Marie.
