In Our Care

Dona Mae (McCutcheon) Scannell, 80, of Cambridge. Beloved wife of the late Edward G. Scannell (his "Snookums"), cherished mother of Edward P. Scannell II and Andrew P. Scannell, and loving grandmother of Rodin Oceani Hunter. Eldest daughter of Muriel S. Daly and Philip B. McCutcheon Jr. (and his wife Mary McCutcheon). Proud sister of Douglas A. McCutcheon, Frank McCutcheon Sr., Rosemarie (McCutcheon) Whipple, and predeceased by Philip B. McCutcheon III.

Best friends of Lena Wasserman, Alice Linnell, and Arleen Henry, amongst countless others, all of whom would tell you "Dona was a Saint".

Born in Somerville Massachusetts on January 9th, 1943, and graduated from Winchester High School. Dona worked as a clerk at the Cambridge Courthouse and for the "Homebase" program, a Cambridge Public Schools early-childhood development program that helped prepare young children and their parents for kindergarten.

She loved music, animals, love stories, late-night TV mysteries, games of all kinds, the color red, sitting on the porch in the sun with her dog Jessie Mae, and above all, her greatest pride, her family and friends. Her heart was legendary and her humility and sincerity were unparalleled. She was the girl 1950's songs were written about. She is free now, to ride horses and dance at 3 AM to her favorite songs. We will miss her sweet voice, her warm hugs, and her timeless dimples. Words could never capture her.

Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass at Mount Auburn Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 15th. Attendees can meet inside the main entrance on Mt. Auburn St. and will be led to the service at Euonymus Path off of Ilex Path. A gathering will be held afterward from 12 - 4 p.m. at the nearby VFW Post 8818 (688 Huron Ave. Cambridge).
