In Our Care
Barbara Alesse, longtime resident of Waltham and Buzzards Bay, passed away peacefully on
September 12, 2023 with family members by her side.
Barbara was born in Cambridge Ma. to the late Alice and Tom Harris and was the oldest of four
children growing up primarily on the south shore of Massachusetts. Barbara often expressed
that her fondest memories of childhood were spending summers with her grandparents on the
shores of Lake Winnipesaukee NH. and in Scituate MA. where she spent countless hours
exploring as well as admiring such sights as Well Rock and Minots Light. These special times
created in her a lasting love for the seashore and all the peace and tranquility it possesses.
Barbara married and settled in Waltham where she raised four children. Later in life she
re-entered the workforce and pursued a career as a ward secretary in the Waltham Hospital
intensive care unit from which she would eventually retire with 20 years of service. Barbara
often credited her beloved Aunt "Mimi" (Marian L. Grimes) for helping her succeed in the hectic
duties of raising four children, pursuing a career and keeping a household by faithfully calling
her every morning with a "wake up call" and a motivational chat.
In Her retirement years Barbara followed her love for the seashore to a home in Buzzards Bay
where she enjoyed spending time on Indian mound beach, gardening, biking and boat watching
along the Cape Cod canal, volunteering her time to help the less fortunate find food and housing
and most especially spending time and creating memories with her good friend Richard "Dick"
Kennedy. Another joy in Barbara's life was her dogs and I would be remiss if I did not mention
the love and care she gave to her faithful companions Scruffy, Daphne and Wally over the
years.
Although she did not know it, Barbara (our Mom) was one of the strongest, kindhearted and
gentle women we will ever know!
Barbara is predeceased by Brother Tom Harris of Ocala Florida and her Beloved Aunt Marian L
Grimes of Brighton. She leaves behind a sister, brother, four children, seven grandchildren
and one great grandchild. These include sister Laura Corso of Honolulu Hawaii, brother Bill
Harris of Plymouth children Michael Alesse and his wife Kathy of Groveland, Jack Alesse and
his wife Helen of Weston, Toni Bourgoujian and her husband Eric of Woodland Hills Ca. David
Alesse and his wife Donna of Burlington. Grandchildren Michael Alesse, Matthew Alesse,
Isabel Alesse, Gabriel Alesse, Ellis Bourgoujian, Madelyn Bourgoujain and Sydney Alesse.
Great Grandchild Giovanni Alesse. Niece Jennifer Moriarty and husband Dan.
A private service will be held by the family.
In lieu of flowers a donation to The Alzheimer's Foundation of America or the MSPCA can be
made in Barbara's name.
