Alfred M. DeVito, Sr. of Watertown, MA passed away peacefully with his family at his side on October 11, 2022 at age 96. Alfred was predeceased by his beloved wife Eileen M. (O'Rourke) and his precious son Charles Andrew. He is survived by his children Marie Hayward and her husband Bruce Glabe of Winchester, Julie DeVito of Nantucket, Alfred M. DeVito, Jr., of Arlington, James DeVito and his wife Kate of Norton, John DeVito and his wife Carole of Watertown, Ann Hannaford of Winchester and Christine A. Murphy and her husband Denis of Wellesley. He was the proud grandfather of 16, Lauren Barrett, Christine Wagner and her husband Kevin, Heather DeVito, Jonathan DeVito and his wife May, John DeVito, Jr. and his wife Laura, Adele Hayward and their spouse Mack Morris, Whitney Bowler and her husband John, Harry Hayward, Joe DeVito and his wife Michelle, Andrew Adams, Emily Hayward, Julianne Adams, Kelly DeVito, Ashley DeVito, Colin Murphy and Ethan Murphy and great grandfather of 12, Callan, Emmeline, Nolan, Charlotte, Caleb, Riley Grace, Ryan Rose, Kyle, Joshua, Annabelle, Jack and Joseph. Alfred was born to Alexander and Adelina (Grosso) DeVito and was brother of the late Edward DeVito, Mary Aufiero, Phyllis DeBenedictis, Josephine Rutkowski, Grace DiVito, and Alexander DeVito.

Alfred was born in Cambridge, MA and was a proud Cantabrigian. He attended St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School in East Cambridge, St. John's Catholic High School in North Cambridge and Boston College. His studies were interrupted when he enlisted at age 18 into the US Army. Al was a proud veteran of WWII and recipient of the Purple Heart. He settled in Arlington after his marriage to Eileen and there he raised his 8 children.

Al had a long and distinguished career in the Funeral Profession proudly and humbly serving his community well into his 80's. Among several fraternal organizations he was part of Al was most proud of his time at the VFW Mt. Auburn Post 8818 in Cambridge, MA. He was very proud of his Boston College education and served as President of the Boston College Club of Cambridge (1950). Alfred was a true East Cambridge guy and was honored serving as a corporator for many years at the East Cambridge Savings Bank. A long time member and Past President of the Oakley Country Club in Watertown he enjoyed his many years of golf and friendship at the club.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Monday 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the DeVito Funeral Home 1145 Mass. Ave., Arlington and to a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday in the Sacred Heart Church, Watertown at 11:00 am. Please go directly to church. Interment will conclude at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
