Obituary For John T. Molloy
John T. Molloy, 72, of Belmont, loving father of Kerry E. Molloy of Brookline, passed away at his home on April 6th.
Born in Hartford, CT to the late William D. and Mary Marie (Bates) Molloy he was the third of their seven children. Raised in West Hartford, CT, he attended St. Thomas the Apostle School and Parish as a child. His middle and high school years were spent at the Marist Preparatory Seminary in Bedford, MA and he later graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1972.
His career path was varied, working in lumber sales, commercial water system installations, at the Massachusetts State Archives in Waltham, and currently with the Bowhead Company at the JFK Federal Building in Boston.
John's biggest passion was for his daughter, Kerry, and they cherished the days they would spend together. When she was young, they enjoyed going to movies, museums, and libraries, never tiring of each other's company. In more recent years, he looked forward to good food and Red Sox games on Sundays with Kerry and her fiancé, Robert.
You would often find him absorbed in a book feeding his limitless curiosity. He absolutely loved bird watching and you could frequently find him with his binoculars in hand looking at a bird that caught his attention, whether on a backyard bird feeder or during his many birding trips he made along the New England coast. Sadly, an upcoming bird watching trip to Alaska with a beloved cousin will go on without him physically present. John couldn't pass a historical marker without having to stop and take a look. He dubbed himself "The Guru" and was knowledgeable about a vast number of subjects, his favorites were wine, food, history, baseball, and birding. We will miss "The Guru’s" Oscar predictions and baseball picks. With friends and family, he was always good company with an easy-going attitude and a great smile to go with it. The food and wine he would bring for family events were always top notch, as he would love to spoil his family, and himself, with great food.
He leaves his daughter, Kerry and her fiancé, Robert Morris, his brothers and sisters, Sarah Molloy Riley and Bill of Bloomfield, CT, Randy and Eileen Vaughan Molloy of West Hartford, CT, Tricia Molloy Teich and Mark of West Hartford, CT, Jane Molloy Petroski and Larry of Oxford, CT, and Mark and Jean Donnelly Molloy of West Hartford. He was predeceased by his brother, Michael Molloy, also of West Hartford and his cherished aunt Helen Molloy of Bloomfield, CT. He also leaves his former wife, Leslie Cook of Allston, MA and many cousins, nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews in New England and beyond. His presence will be sorely missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the DeVito Funeral Home, 761 Mt. Auburn St., Watertown on Wednesday April 20th from 4-7 pm and to his funeral mass on Thursday April 21st at 11 am at St. Anthony Church, Allston. Interment will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on John's behalf to Mass Audubon, https://www.massaudubon.org/ , or plant a tree in his honor.

"Hey there sports fans!' John: "I'll buy it you cook it". Steaks would be shipped to my house! Me: "OK... You bring it and I'll drink it." Bottles of wine would appear from his bag!

I met John when he was a volunteer at the National Archives. He was so knowledgeable and well read and then became a friend. We had lots of laughs, lots of fun, lots of serious talks, too, and he even took me and my visiting sisters on a Birdwatch at Mount Auburn cemetery. He was a wonderful person who adored his family and especially his daughter. I will miss him!

John was good company. I loved watching him in his sweet spot - hanging out with friends and talking about serious stuff (baseball) or talking about nothing at all. He seemed to really appreciate camaraderie. Always curious and with questions. It was always good to see him. Almost always in good cheer, even when complaining about something. I got the feeling he was all right no matter how he was doing. Such a good man.
