Coleman, John F. “Jack” of Belmont on February 21st. Beloved husband of the late Margaret M. (McKeon) Coleman and brother of the late Mary P. Easter. Also survived by his niece Karen Lane and her husband Peter, brother in law Tom McKeon, cousin Dr. Bernard Logan and Joel Tangi and his longtime caregivers Frida Zaake and Samson Baranga.

Jack was born in Dorchester, MA on May 11, 1932 to John and Sarah Coleman who had emigrated to America from Ireland. He attended St. Peter's School in Dorchester and later Boston College High School, where he was a member of the first honors class at the school. He was also an avid player of sports at various playgrounds and in local street games. He graduated from Boston College in 1953 with an AB Math degree and contributed numerous drawings for BC school publications such as The Heights, Stylus and his 1953 Yearbook.

Following graduation, he successfully completed the US Navy Officer Candidate School and was assigned to the Newport Naval Base as a Public Information Officer, responsible for preparing and disseminating Navy news events for the media; both locally and nationally. It was while he was coordinating Navy support to the Newport-to-Bermuda Yacht Race that he first met LTjg Marge McKeon who he later married on February 2, 1957 at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City.

After his three years in the US Navy, Jack joined IBM in Kingston, NY and was one of the early pioneers in the growing field of computer programming. In the first nine years of their marriage, Marge and Jack moved seven times, each move offering either an opportunity to advance in the field of computer programming or else to see the world, or both. Among the work locations were such interesting cities as Paris France, Frankfurt Germany, Washington DC and San Diego CA. His wife Marge liked to joke that the letters IBM stand for "I've Been Moved".

Jack moved into his first management position in IBM while in San Diego. Here he established a home office for IBM analysts and programmers who were working under contract at the US Navy Electronics Laboratory on Point Loma. It was while in San Diego that Jack took advantage of its ideal weather to advance his love and skills for the game of golf. For two years, he was at the Torrey Pines golf course every Saturday morning, with never a cancellation because of rain. When he successfully completed this challenging and satisfying job assignment, he was offered his dream location...Boston and resolved never to move again.

As IBM was changing its focus from selling computers to providing software services to its customers, Jack was asked to set up and manage a Services group covering all of New England. After the NE office was successfully established, his determination to stay in Boston was undermined when he was offered an opportunity to transfer to Paris. An offer he couldn't, wouldn't refuse. At the conclusion of this two-year dream assignment, he returned to Boston and dropped anchor. He and Marge were home to stay.
