Obituary For Douglas Richmond Russell
RUSSELL, Douglas Richmond, Age 57
Of Arlington, MA passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 3 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Doug was born in Washington, DC and lived overseas in Italy, Czechoslovakia and Denmark with his Foreign Service family. He attended Middlesex School in Concord, MA, the University of Virginia and Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, receiving a Master’s in International Relations. Doug was Senior Vice President at LaVoie Health Science until his sudden illness and previously had spent 20 years at MSL Group/Schwartz Communications. Doug was highly regarded as an expert in his field and earned numerous awards on behalf of his healthcare and information technology clients.
Doug was a great friend to so many people over the years, always keeping in touch and getting together with his school buddies. His interest in art, music and culture spanned the decades and he loved to travel with his family to exotic destinations and places closer to home such as Maine and Martha’s Vineyard. Doug’s record collection is extensive and he and his wife could be found in antique stores and flea markets searching for all kinds of interesting items.
He is survived by his wife Barry Whitehead Russell, his son Nathaniel Stedman Russell, his parents, Ambassador Theodore Emery Russell (Ret.) and Sara (Sally) Stedman Russell, and his brother Richard Mather Russell as well as numerous cousins in the Boston area.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in honor of Douglas Russell to brain cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Please visit http://danafarber.jimmyfund.org/goto/dougrussell to make your gift.
